They weren't actually mating at this point. But Monstrum was getting ready to! He'd tried a few times but did it incorrectly. He'd take breaks in between before he tried again. It ended up taking 3 hours for him to finally do it right. Then they mated for 9 hours! I've got footage. 
This is the first time my mantids have mated. I tried before with Tenodera sinensis and Tenodera angustipennis but to no avail; the males were killed. I think it definitely depends on the species how easy breeding will be. This species (Parasphendale agrionina) was a piece of cake! Monstrum was placed on top of Vegrandis and immediately he clung on.
Monstrum flew off after 12 hours and is ok.
